Intern
Abstract
The book ‘Intern’ tells the story of a doctor of Indian descent, Sandeep Jauhar as he progresses through medical school, and residency. Dr Jauhar was a reluctant entrant to medicine. He was a physicist who later got interested in medicine. His parents wanted him to be a doctor and his elder brother was a doctor. He studied Physics at the University of California at Berkeley and was fascinated by the creative thinking and the abstract ideas of physics. I could empathize with him as I share a lifelong fascination with physics and mathematics. Dr Jauhar joined the MD (undergraduate medical) program at the University of St Louis in Missouri. His father was a plant geneticist who had emigrated from India who held a lifelong belief that his talents were not recognized and the system was biased against people of color.
